Baby Admiring a Christmas Tree

A Message from St. John’s Preschool Director Alesia Portugal

This is an exciting time of year for all of us. The holidays are around the corner, and we are anticipating a lovely time with family and friends. This time of year also marks the beginning of our Giving Trees, a tradition at St. John’s Preschool that we would like to continue. Each year as a preschool community, we support the Stepping Stones Program (the charitable division of Children’s Hospice and Palliative) in their endeavors to create a better, happier, holiday season for those in need.

The St. John’s Community has excitedly taken on 4 families that are in need this Christmas season. Each family is part of the Stepping Stones Program, and are all coping with debilitating ailments of a young child. In addition, all these families are dealing with monetary difficulties, predominately from hospital bills and having no ability to keep a full-time job while caring for their children. Most of these parents must deal with their small child having numerous complicated surgeries and extensive recovery periods. The Giving Trees help relieve some of their stress during the holiday season.

At the end of this message is a Sign-Up Genius link. Please sign up for the item(s) you would like to purchase.

Once you have done so and have the item(s) ready to go, please drop off your wrapped gift donation to Alesia Portugal, in the designated box in the church narthex. Please include a tag on each gift with the following information:

  • the family number, (family 1, 2, 3 or 4)

  • family member's name

  • the contents of the wrapped gift so we can keep track of what item(s) we have received

  • if purchasing clothing and shoes, please include a gift receipt

All gifts are due back to St. Johns by Monday, December 12th. Keep in mind as you are shopping that there are plenty of ways big and small that you can make a difference in the lives of families that are struggling.
