Job Description

Director of Music Ministry

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kirkland, Washington (SJK) seeks applicants for our Director of Music Ministry.  The Director will also act as our Organist and Choir Director.

The Director of Music Ministry is a part time, salaried employee reporting to the Rector, and is eligible for partial benefits. Their responsibility is to develop and lead the worship music for our church, in consultation with the Rector and other team members that is consistent with our mission, values, and theology.

St. John’s is at the beginning of a two year Centennial Celebration and we very much want joyful music to be a key component of all of our events and outreach activities.  As we move into the future, there is a possibility that the position could grow into full time employment.

St. John’s Kirkland, like many churches, had to suspend in-person choir and live music due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This position will have the exciting opportunity to revitalize and re-awaken music as part of parish life.

We are looking for an enthusiastic leader with outstanding planning and organization skills and strong musical ability to lead the development of all music ministries, including our preschool.  This position is also responsible for preparing and playing organ preludes, postludes, anthems, choir direction and accompaniment at Sunday services and choir rehearsals.

Instruments include a grand piano and a 2 manual, 16 rank late 19th century American tracker,  built in 1892 by Cole and Woodbury.  The organ has recently undergone a complete restoration and provides incredible sound.
