Director of Children and Families Ministries

 

Job Descriptions

Job Description:  Oversee the educational programs for children from the approximate ages of 0 through 13. Work with the families to connect them to St. John’s and the mission and ministry of the church.

Desirable Experience and Expectations:
- Coordinate with clergy and staff to realize St. John’s mission for children’s Christian Education.
- Experience with Godly Play or willingness to learn. Have attended Godly Play core training or be willing to attend training to support the Godly Play program.
- Recruit leaders and helpers for Children’s Ministries. Organize and support Godly Play volunteers.
- Organize training for volunteers. Implement a middle grades Christian education program.
- Organize Nursery volunteers and supervise paid nursery staff,  supplement as necessary.
- Support families and children of St. John’s through prayer, emails, meetings, phone calls, etc.
- Assist with outreach to invite and include families and youth in our ministries. This should include the use of various media and social media.
- Organize events throughout the year with support of the parish and families, including Christmas pageant, Shrove Tuesday pancakes, end-of-the-year party for Sunday School.
- Liaise with the preschool director and teachers regarding Godly Play, Chapel and other events on the Church calendar.
- Organize and direct Vacation Bible Camp
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings

Needed Qualities and Skills:   Good communication skills, organized and reliable, basic computer skills, strong interpersonal skills, understanding of basic Christian tenets and Episcopal beliefs. 

 

This position reports to the Rector and the preschool director.

Hours:  12 hours a week with additional hours and commensurate pay for additional job responsibilities, such as teaching Godly Play in the Preschool. Hours will include working on Sundays.

Salary Range:   $15 to $20 per hour.  $9,000 - $12,000 a year

Director of Music Ministry and Organist/Pianist

Job Descriptions

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kirkland, Washington (SJK) seeks applicants for our Director of Music Ministry and an Organist/Pianist.

 

These positions may be combined into one job or filled separately, depending on the qualifications of the applicants.

The Director of Music Ministry is a part-time, salaried employee reporting to the Rector, and is eligible for partial benefits. Their responsibility is to develop and lead the worship music for our church, in consultation with the Rector and other team members, in a way consistent with our mission, values, and theology. They are expected to provide leadership, coordination, planning, musical ability, and enthusiasm to build and grow the music ministries of the St. John’s Kirkland (SJK) congregation and preschool.

The Organist/Pianist is a part-time, salaried employee reporting to the Rector. They are responsible for preparing and playing organ or piano preludes, postludes, anthems, and choir accompaniment at Sunday services and choir rehearsals.

 

Instruments include a grand piano and a 2 manual, 16 rank late 19th cent. American tracker built-in 1892 by Cole and Woodbury, for which a complete restoration has just been completed by Puget Sound Pipe Organs.
