The Opportunity: Director of Youth Ministry
We are seeking a passionate and spiritually grounded Director of Youth Ministry to lead and inspire our youth (ages 12 to 19). This key role supports their spiritual formation and helps families connect more deeply with the life and mission of the church.
The ideal candidate will create a safe, welcoming space where young people can explore faith, ask questions, build friendships, and grow as followers of Christ. We are looking for someone who can guide youth in experiences of God’s holiness and love and help them discover the joy and purpose that come from becoming who God calls them to be.
Key Responsibilities
As the Director of Youth Ministry, you will:
Program Development and Leadership:

Plan, organize, and lead weekly youth gatherings with age-appropriate activities, discussions, and prayer.

Organize and lead seasonal or special events, such as retreats, service projects, mission trips, and Diocesan youth events.

Collaborate with clergy and lay leaders to integrate youth into the broader life of the church.
Faith Formation:

Develop creative ways to teach Episcopal tradition, scripture, and spiritual practices suited for middle and high schoolers.

Support Confirmation preparation as needed, in partnership with clergy and families.

Provide pastoral care and mentorship, modeling a Christ-centered life.
Community Building:

Foster authentic relationships with youth and their families, encouraging intergenerational connection within the congregation.

Maintain clear communication with parents and caregivers regarding programs, schedules, and needs.
Volunteer Support:

Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to assist with youth ministry events and supervision.

Ensure compliance with the Episcopal Church’s Safe Church guidelines, including background checks and training.
Administrative:

Manage the youth ministry budget and supplies.

Promote youth events through church communication channels (bulletins, websites, newsletters, etc.).

Attend regular staff meetings and participate in planning church-wide events as needed.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications:
-
A vibrant Christian faith and understanding of Episcopal theology and liturgy (membership in the Episcopal Church or openness to its traditions required).

Experience working with middle and high school youth in a church, school, or non-profit setting.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to a wide range of people.

Creativity, adaptability, and a sense of humor.

Ability to lead prayer, facilitate discussions, and handle sensitive topics with care.

CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Completion of Safeguarding God’s Children training (provided upon hire if needed).
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education, theology, youth ministry, or a related field.

Experience in organizing and planning events, retreats or trips.

Familiarity with Diocesan Youth Ministry networks and resources.
Physical Requirements:
-
Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods during youth events, services, and meetings.

Capability to lift and carry materials or equipment up to 25 pounds (e.g., supplies for events, games, or outreach activities).

Ability to move freely across varied environments (indoor church spaces, outdoor venues, retreat locations).

Comfortable using stairs, especially in older church buildings or during off-site activities.

Sufficient vision and hearing to participate in and supervise group discussions and activities.
