Volunteer Community Garden Coordinator

Time Commitment: 3–5 hours/week (varies seasonally)
Reports To: Garden Committee / Rector or Vestry Liaison
Overview:
The Community Garden Coordinator leads the day-to-day operations of the St. John’s Community Garden: a shared garden space dedicated to growing fresh vegetables for donation to local food banks and neighbors in need. This role supports the church’s mission of hospitality, stewardship, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

Organize and lead seasonal planting, workdays, and harvest efforts.

Coordinate volunteer participation and maintain a shared task schedule (watering, weeding, composting, etc.).

Ensure tools and supplies are maintained and stored properly.

Communicate regularly with the Garden Committee and church staff.

Deliver or coordinate delivery of harvested produce to local food banks.

Help orient new volunteers and promote a welcoming, inclusive garden environment.

Encourage sustainable and organic gardening practices.

Support garden outreach efforts (bulletin, signage, flyers, parish events).

Some gardening knowledge (or willingness to learn)

Comfortable communicating with volunteers of all ages

Able to lift up to 20 pounds and do light physical work
