Welcome The Rev. Canon Carla Robinson
Canon for Multicultural Ministries and Community Transformation
Sunday, April 19, 2026, 10:00 a.m.
Welcoming Canon Carla Robinson
This Sunday, St. John’s is privileged to welcome The Rev. Canon Carla Robinson—a wise theologian, a holy woman of God, and a faithful priest. In addition to preaching at the Holy Eucharist, Canon Robinson will lead a presentation during coffee hour concerning her role as the Canon for Multicultural Ministries and Community Transformation.
Canon Carla is a leading voice in the Episcopal Church and a treasure to this diocese. Her ministry is dedicated to growing the Church’s capacity to marshal the riches of our diversity in service of Christ’s reconciling mission. She does life-changing work at the intersection of our ancient tradition and the cultural, economic, and political shifts that often challenge our understanding of the modern world.
The Capstone of Formation
The timing of Canon Carla’s visit is prescient. A week from today, April 25, 2026, five members of our parish will make a pilgrimage to Saint Mark’s Cathedral to receive the sacramental rites of Confirmation and Reception.
Her presentation will serve as the "capstone" of the formation process that began earlier this year. We intentionally postponed our final session on how we, as Anglicans, are uniquely equipped to engage the complexities of the world so that we could learn from her expertise.
Canon Carla will share an intersectional approach to faith and life called “The Praxis Cycle.” This approach comes out of the international experience of the Anglican Communion and highlights the Anglican ethos founded in the intersection of Scripture, tradition and reason.
Building Capacity for a Changing Parish
This visit is also a significant marker in the larger context of Saint John’s ministry redevelopment. The Formation Committee was recently reformulated to more intentionally support the parish’s wider aims. In this season, our goal is not to do something entirely new, but to do what we have always faithfully done in a manner that is more deeply integrated with our common life and mission.
Our recent Lenten program exemplified this. It served as the core curriculum for our confirmation candidates while offering quality programming and hospitality to the entire parish. By including instructors from both the laity and the clergy, we enabled our members to share their unique gifts for ministry. Canon Robinson’s presentation further strengthens this work, exploring how our Anglican approach to faith, worship, and reason provides us with a tremendous capacity to engage the world meaningfully.
Join Us Sunday
We encourage every member of the parish—not just our candidates—to attend. Come and discover how our Episcopal way of following Jesus enables us to engage a world that daily.
