“Rebuild the Church in Haiti” Kick Off Solid Success

Thank you St. John’s for your generous response to the Rebuild Our Church in Haiti campaign. If you missed the kick-off of our drive to help rebuild Trinity Cathedral in Port-Au-Prince Haiti, here’s the good news.  Already we have contributed over 100 bricks toward our goal of one brick for every member of St. John’s. There is still time to join the diocesan campaign announced by Bishop Rickel at the convention.  Rebuild Our Church in Haiti is a national, grass roots effort of the Episcopal Church to lift up one of our own dioceses after the 2010 earthquake destroyed the cathedral.  $10 buys a brick and adds a link to our chain.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF APRIL 15th

SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP: Please join us after the our 8am & 10am services in Marsh Hall for fellowship and an opportunity to learn more about the Haiti Campaign.

Rebuild Our Church in Haiti Campaign

Join us after the service in marsh Hall for a special presentation with Jennifer Daugherty, Diocesan Coordinator for Rebuild Our Church in Haiti Campaign.

When the January 2010 earthquake hit Haiti, people turned to the church.  They knew that they  would find help there even though nearly all the buildings, including Holy Trinity Cathedral and complex in Port-Au-Prince, had been reduced to rubble. (See pictures of the Cathedral before and after the earthquake on the “Rebuild Our Church in Haiti” bulletin board in the narthex.)

St. John’s has joined with the diocese of Olympia in the National project of the Episcopal Church to Rebuild Holy Trinity Cathedral so that there will always be a place people can go during times of trouble, a place that will lift them up both spiritually and physically.  “The work we are beginning”, said Bishop Rickel, “is more than a matter of bricks and mortar; it means working side by side with our brothers and sisters in Haiti to build something that we can only build together - the spiritual, cultural and educational center of the largest diocese in the Episcopal Church.”

A $10 donation buys a “brick” for Trinity Cathedral. Brick by Brick we will Rebuild Our Church in Haiti.  Join us in resurrecting the poorest and most populous diocese in the Episcopal Church.

MINISTRY LEADER MEETING: Our next Ministry Leader’s Meeting is Wednesday, April 18th, at 7PM in Marsh Hall.  If you are a ministry leader, please plan to attend or send a representative from your ministry.  All are welcome to attend; you need not be an “official” ministry leader to join us and share your ideas!

DRIVERS NEEDED: The Mission to Seafarers is looking for volunteer van drivers.  During the cruise season, we offer a shuttle service to downtown Seattle for the members of the crew. This enables them to do some necessary shopping, visit the doctor, or generally relax away from the confines of their ship in the few hours they have off in Port.  This Ministry entails driving our two passenger vans from Pier 91 by the Magnolia Street Bridge to a drop off location near Westlake Center.  The fun begins at 8:00 AM and we are back at our Center by 3:15PM. We will be providing this shuttle service every day except Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning May 7th and continuing through the last weekend in September.  No special driver's license is required and our insurance covers all our drivers. Training will be provided.  If you are interested in joining our dedicated group of drivers or have questions, please contact the Mission to Seafarers at office.mts.seattle@gmail.com or 206-935-3439 OR you can talk with Ed Leonard.  This is an excellent opportunity to meet young people from all over the world and to really make a difference.

STUDENTS FOR AFRICA DINNER & AUCTION: As some of you know, Flora Komba Glimsdale started a foundation to help raise funds for orphans back in her hometown of Songea, Tanzania. They are currently trying to support 75 children & help with their food, shelter, tuition and uniforms.  When she fell ill with cancer, she was unable to do fundraising for her Mwangaza Jitgemee foundation. www.mwangazajitegemee.org.  She contacted many people and they stepped up and helped her in many ways.  One of these programs is the Students for Africa.  They are kids from the Woodinville Alliance Church and they are raising money to go on a mission to Songea and help there. Attached is a flyer with information about an event that they are having on May 6th.  It is a dinner and silent auction.  All proceeds will go towards getting these missionaries to Tanzania to give a world of help & hope for those in need
