But after a series of business reverses, he was evicted from his home, abandoned by his family, and found himself living in a van on the streets of Bremerton, Washington, with his dog Willow ("the wonder dog") his only companion.

The festivities begin at 9AM during the service and Annual Meeting. Participants will enjoy a pancake feast, play PJ games and watch a movie. All attendees must be pre-registered and the sign-up sheet is in the Narthex. They are to bring a sleeping bag, stuffed animal and a pillow with them to the party. FIRST COMMUNION: The Holy Eucharist has at times been called the Sacrament of Nourishment. Since being instituted by our Lord Jesus nearly two thousand years ago, this major Sacrament has satisfied the spiritual hunger of millions of Christians with a wonderful sustaining power. It is our privilege as parents to share with our children the remarkable joy of the Holy Communion with our Lord Jesus Christ. To that end, St. John’s will be offering a First Communion course for young people. Interested parents and their children are invited to meet with Fr. Scot on Saturday, February 25th, in Room 1 at 10AM in the church’s lower level for an orientation of the course and information on First Communion Sunday. If you can’t make this first session, don’t worry, you can still sign up for the regular class, please talk to Fr. Scot if you have any questions.
NEW VESTRY MEMBERS: Three members of our present vestry will have completed their terms this year and they are Gary R., Jo Ann H., and Ed L.. Three new members will need to be elected at our annual meeting to fill these vacancies. If you are interested in being a candidate and you are:
· An adult communicant in good standing and 16 or over
· Have been a member of St. John’s for at least one year and have taken communion at least 3 times
· Willing and able to attend monthly Vestry meetings and an annual weekend retreat
· Willing to accept other responsibilities such as becoming a liaison between the vestry and certain ministries
· And you want to make a contribution to your church
You would make a good candidate!

FREE TAX PEPARATION: The United Way of King County is currently operating 16 free tax preparation sites throughout King County at which low and medium income individuals can have their taxes prepared for free until April 17th. Tax assistance will be provided by over 650 volunteers who are trained and certified by the IRS. The service is entirely free and no compensation is ever accepted or solicited. Additional information can be found on the bulletin board in Marsh Hall.

WITH SINCERE SYMATHY we remember Pamela Lee and Ruth West. Pamela Lee passed away on Friday, January 6, 2012. A memorial service for Pamela will be held here at St. John’s on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2PM with a reception afterwards. Ruth West passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012. A memorial service for Ruth will be held here at St. John’s on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 11AM with a reception afterwards.
OUTREACH: We need your help to feed the homeless at the Eastside Severe Weather Shelters! From Christmas through January 21st, we will collect nonperishable snacks, jugs of fruit juice, and paper goods for both the men’s and women’s shelters. The week of January 21-27, we will provide hot dinners, paper goods and takeaway snacks each evening at both shelters. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex for individuals or groups (Scout Troops? Ministry groups?) who wish to choose a night to provide a meal for one or both shelters. A list of suggested snack items and other requested donations may be found on the collection bin in the Narthex or on the Outreach bulletin board in Marsh Hall.
