MEN’S GROUP: Our next Men’s Group meeting is on Thursday, February 9th at 6PM. Kurt Ahrensfeld is our chef, please let him know if you can help. Our speaker is Richard LeMieux, the author of “Breakfast at Sally’s.” Below is a short review (which is plagiarized from William Hall) of Richard’s book. For the full review, please see the kiosk.

This is a memoir by a man who lost everything--except his humanity. Richard LeMieux had it all--a palatial home, a family, a business, luxury cars, boats--all the outward trappings of success. But after a series of business reverses, he was evicted from his home, abandoned by his family, and found himself living in a van on the streets of Bremerton, Washington, with his dog Willow ("the wonder dog") his only companion.

Please let Fred M. or Randy S. know if you plan to attend. See you there.

FIRST COMMUNION: The Holy Eucharist has at times been called the Sacrament of Nourishment. Since being instituted by our Lord Jesus nearly two thousand years ago, this major Sacrament has satisfied the spiritual hunger of millions of Christians with a wonderful sustaining power. It is our privilege as parents to share with our children the remarkable joy of the Holy Communion with our Lord Jesus Christ. To that end, St. John’s will be offering a First Communion course for young people.  Interested parents and their children are invited to meet with Fr. Scot on Saturday, February 25th, in Room 1 at 10AM in the church’s lower level for an orientation of the course and information on First Communion Sunday. If you can’t make this first session, don’t worry, you can still sign up for the regular class, please talk to Fr. Scot if you have any questions.

ADULT LENTEN PROGRAM:  Our Lenten Program will meet for 5 weeks beginning Wednesday, February 29th and end on Wednesday, March 28th. Come join us to feed your body and nourish your spirit. Potluck dinner starts at 6PM with our Adult Education & Children’s program starting at 6:45PM. Everyone is welcomed! Dr. Marty Folsom will lead our program entitled “Dancing in Community with Colossians”. Below is a brief outline. Dr. Folsom teaches Graduate and Undergraduate courses in the College of Ministry at Northwest University.

Colossians serves as an icon of hopeful thinking in an age of philosophical smorgasbords and a loss of community. This letter serves as a window to consider the life of the church in restoring persons by refocusing her to live within the life of the Triune God. We will consider Colossian’s themes during Lent to shed what hinders us in order to be renewed in relationship with a living God.

Feb 29th: Community & the Wisdom of Love and Grace (Colossians 1:1-14)

March 7th: The Image that Renews (Colossians 1:15-2:3)

March 14th: Gospel Shadows, Gospel Reality (Colossians 2:4-23)

March 21st: New Humanity, New Community (3:1-16)

March 28th: The Ultimate Lifestyle (3:17-4:6)

CHILDREN’S LENTEN PROGRAM: Children in preschool through 6th grade will join together for “Friendship First”, a fun program that teaches kids how to trust each other by trusting Jesus. Through games, music, science and cooking, kids will learn how to be a good friend to others while strengthening their friendship with Jesus.  And, at some point during the program kids will experience “Kitty Litter Brownies”!!  See Cathy Christensen for more information or if you’d like to volunteer time, food or finances to this project.

TENT CITY: Looking for a way to serve? Tent City is back in our neighborhood! Contact Kristin G. or Karen S. at 425-827-3077 if you would like to help pick up donations at the Totem Lake Starbucks and deliver them to Tent City at Holy Spirit Lutheran.  Deliveries are made 3 times week and a delivery log must be faxed to foodtodonate.org from the church office. Please see the bulletin board in Marsh Hall for the current Tent City wish list if you would like to donate additional items to Tent City.

WOMEN’S RETREAT 2012: Save the date for the annual St. John's Women's Retreat during the weekend of March 16, 17 & 18th. The Retreat will take place at Huston Center in the bucolic foothills of the Cascade Mountains.  Forest and lawns give a feeling of seclusion and quiet. Enjoy a weekend of fellowship, fun, and relaxation. This year, we will be guided by Joyce Rupp's book entitled "The Cup of Life." The cost for the weekend is $175 which includes 2 nights of lodging, six meals, and all supplies for the retreat. Scholarships will be available if you would really like to participate but need some help with the cost. For scholarships, talk to Adeline C., confidentially, at 425-827-3077, or at church on Sundays. Please look for the sign-up sheet in the Narthex. More information and registration forms will be available next week!

WEDNESDAY WORSHIP SERVICE & BIBLE STUDY: Wednesday Eucharist is held in the Chapel at 10AM. Bible Study follows in Marsh Hall. Please join us for both.
